2009 Recap

2009 is just a few short days away from being complete, and the new year will begin. This year was pretty crazy for me personally. I have trouble remembering everything I did, but that’s why I always have a camera with me. It helps me put the pieces together (my memory is a little fuzzy after a couple concussions). I’ve stored all my photos into my hard drive and thought it would be pretty cool to go over the year with some of my favorite photos and videos. So follow me…

BMX Montage ’09

More BMX >>

If you happened to read the Joel Pierazek interview from a week ago, you would recall me asking Joel where Joe Donaldson has been. Joe is a shredder from Florida that used to pump out really good edits all the time. I hadn’t seen any edits from him in a while and was curious where he went. Shortly after the interview was posted I got an email from Joe giving me an update on what he has been up to. He has been working and taking classes in Gainesville while riding a bunch. He had this new edit that he had been working on for a while and told me I could upload it for people to check out. So I guess this is a bit of a BMXunion exclusive edit. Thanks Joe! I’ve posted a few of his older edits after the jump…

On the Spot with Dig: Best Turndowns in BMX?

I figured with so many people planning on being at Baco that it would be a real good chance to do the next Best of BMX question similar to the tabletops one that was done at the Tunnel Jam. This is what came from it. Sorry for the out of focus shots. I was trying to sneak it up on people and left it on auto-focus… leaving quite a few bad shots. Oh well.

Baco-A-Ho-Ho Scraps

Catfish has a laser at all times.

Have you ever had one of those weekends that was so good that it is a blur? Not because you were hammered, but because you were having such a good time that time flew faster and faster. That basically sums up what Baco in Milwaukee was this weekend. I’ve learned that the key to remembering everything is to have a camera ready for any situation. I think I took over 400 pictures this past weekend and every one has a caption that comes to mind. I already posted a few things and photos about the Park/Street Jam and the Bowl Jam over on the Dig website. You should check that out, too. Check out a few more photos after the jump!

Session Cover

This past weekend I was talking to Sam Schlappi at Baco and he was telling me about him being on the cover of Session BMX Magazine. I was stoked on it and had him shoot me an email with the cover. Sam also mentioned he’s a fan on BMXunion so I’d just like to say thanks for the support! It turns out we have been crossing paths for quite a while with emails and stuff over the years, so it was good to finally party! Check out the full cover after the jump…

Joel Pierazek Interview

It seems like everyday I come across a really good web video, and I want to find out more about the person shredding. A couple weeks back, Joel had a real good video drop on Vital BMX that I was interested in. Luckily, the video was by old BMXunion contributor Brett Rohlfing so it wasn’t too hard to track down Joel. I got ahold of him and shot him some questions. I wasn’t sure where this was going to go since I had no idea about the guy, but I think it turned out pretty good. Check out what Joel had to say, some photos and videos, and then leave him some love in the comments!

On the Horizon: Volume/Demolition

Whenever I think of when I first remember seeing something from Volume or Demolition, I think of about 8 years ago or so when a guy was at the local trails on a Dinosaur frame. The guy was really good, and I was at that point where I was convinced riding a certain part or frame would be what made you good. I was only 12 or 13 at the time, but that’s okay.
A lot of things have changed since then. Frames no longer weigh more than me, I’ve accepted riding a certain part will never automatically give me tailwhips, and that if a brand is doing something right, they will continue to exist. With that being said, it was time we did a little catch up with Brian Castillo about the happenings over at Volume and Demolition these days.

Lahsaan Kobza Interview

Lahsaan’s name has been popping up quite a bit lately. Whether it was the news about him joining the Skeleton Crew or the multiple web videos he has had part in. Lahsaan has been on it. I wanted to find out some more about him, so I shot him a couple of questions and let him and Tammy mix it up a bit to make it work for him. Then I got some amazing shots from Josh Hayes to go along with it. So check out what Lahsaan is all about, and some of his recent videos, then leave him some love in the comments!

Baco-A-Ho-Ho-Ho

I’m sure you have seen this flyer floating around lately. It’s for the Baco Jam that is going down at 4Seasons December 18th-20th. I’ll be making the drive on over to Wiscompton to partake in the festivities. If you haven’t had the chance to attend a Baco then you haven’t been to a contest. The last one I went to had a mother/daughter stripper team and 9 state patrol at the party. It was awesome! So, you will probably see me running around taking photos, bugging people and being a dumbass in general. Get stoked.
