Review: The Year of 2011

Well, would you look at that… 2011 is almost over. Where the hell did the year go? If there’s one thing I’ve come to realize is that the older you get, the faster the world turns. I’m not saying I’m old by any means, just after riding for nearly 12 years, the days fly by faster and faster and I’ve come to accept that as long as I keep riding, I’ll keep having good memories that I can look back on by the end of the year. I just went through my photos and selected out a few that stood out to me from the year. Due to life taking over, I didn’t get the chance to travel nearly as much as I would have liked, but I still managed to do a few cool things. Let’s take a peek…

Product: G Sport Birdcage Rims

A few months back, I posted up a bit of information on the new G-Sport Birdcage rim from what I gathered at Odyssey’s Frostbike booth. It sounds like the rim is finally in production and will be available in the next two weeks. It will be available in hard Anodized black, Matte Army Green, hard Anodized Blue and hard Anodized Red. The rim will also be available in chrome eventually as well. Strong and very light.
On the Horizon – Quality Bicycle Products

Every year for the last three years, I’ve made my way up to Bloomington, Minnesota for the annual Frostbike, which is like a miniture Interbike for brands that Quality Bicycle Products carries. When I was there I started thinking about how much goes into an operation like this distributor that handles shops all across the U.S on the daily, I realized there were a lot of questions that could be asked. I figured it would be pretty cool to find out more about the company by talking with two guys I’ve known for a while now through riding, Jay Schlie and Glenn Dussl. Jay and Glenn have been a big part of the BMX scene in Minnesota for years, and it just so happens that they both handle a good portion of the BMX department at QBP. Check out what they had to say for my questions, and some photos of the building that I shot while I was up there this past year for Frostbike…

Product: Odyssey Matte Kelly Green Kit
SHIPMENT: MATTE KELLY GREEN KIT from ODYSSEYBMX.COM
If you remember the post of Odyssey’s booth from Frostbike, I mentioned that the Matte Kelly Green colorway kit would be available soon. Well, Odyssey just got their shipment and the product should be hitting shops and distributors shortly. Get the full list of what is available in this color after the jump.
Quicky: Chad DeGroot

Quicky is a new feature I’m going to try and start firing out here on the regular. It’s basically an interview, but straight to the point of “what are you up to” with no real extra non-bmx related questions that I’ll mix in with the regular interviews. I figured I’d start these off with the one and only Chad DeGroot. Anyone who knows Chad knows that he’s a definitely a little kooky, but awesome. He gets himself into some ridiculous situations and has some of the best stories ever. Chad also always has something going on. I figured it would be a good time to check in with him and see what’s new and try and light a fire under his ass to get another Baco contest going. Check out what he had to say…

Frostbike 2011: Profile & DECO

The last of the booths. The Profile booth was in control of Charlie once again this year. It was also being occupied by Chad DeGroot who had some of his Deco goods on the table. There’s a few new things on the table that haven’t been out for a very long at this one. Let’s take a look…

Frostbike 2011: DuFFS

I think, for me personally, getting a look at the new DuFFS stuff is one of the bigger highlights of Frostbike for me. I blame Brian Osborne for my increasing interest in shoes the last few years. Brian was on hand to tempt me with a whole bunch of fresh shoes, including Kevin Porter’s signature model (above). Let’s take a look at what DuFFs has to offer…

Frostbike 2011: Stolen

Made the way over to the Stolen booth. David Wooten was there making sure things were going smooth, and gave me a run through of what they had on the table. Let’s take a look…

Frostbike 2011: The Shadow Conspiracy

Shortly after, I cruised over to the Shadow Conspiracy booth to see what Ronnie Bonner and Mike were up to. Shadow has been busy dropping a lot of new product over the last year or so, so it’s always good to get a closer look at some of their product they have to offer. Take a look…

Frostbike 2011: BSD

Moving along to the next booth. Grant Smith flew over from Scotland, and Tony Malouf came up from Chicago to be on hand for BSD‘s booth for Frostbike. Reed Stark decided to make a pro rider appearance since he wasn’t too busy partying at the U of M as well. Let’s take a look at what kind of goodies BSD has for you to check out…
