On the Horizon: Eye BMX

EYE Q BMX frame
EYE Q frame

Last winter during Frostbike I had come across Erik Engstrom and the EYE BMX booth. The new brand that was being brought in from VSI products (Sinz, THE, Intense, Vigor, etc.). At the time it was just starting off with a few prototypes being displayed. I figured I’d give it a few months and then hit up Erik to see where they have come to since. Check out what EYE is all about, some of their products, the team, and more…

On the Horizon: Deluxe

Photobucket
We test our stuff for a long time before we bring them out, and Davros’s bike has a few prototype parts on it – all the blue stuff you see here is prototype and on test now…

It’s crazy how if you stay in BMX long enough, you get to watch brands start out and grow. Deluxe is one of those newer brands that has seen some growth since its start just a few short years ago. I figured it was due time to catch up with Mark Noble to see what he has going on with the brand these days, and where he sees things going. Give it a read and let us know what you think in the comments…

On the Horizon: Etnies

Etnies Number

Flash back six or so years ago. Etnies was doing a team tour in their bus that made a stop at Jellystone skatepark in Warrens, Wisconsin. I’m about 15 and running a Macneil Ruben frame, wearing Etnies Ruben shoes, and sitting right next to Ruben Alcantara who is running his signature frame and wearing his signature shoes. I was so amazed that I could barely talk. That, and watching the whole team at that time really impacted me. I wore Etnies for a solid 6 years straight up until the recent chances to mix things up from some support from other brands the last two years. Needless to say, because of Etnies I got the chance to see some of my all time favorite pros ride in person, and that I’ve also been a big fan of the brand for years.
I was thinking that I haven’t bugged John Povah in a while and that made for a perfect excuse for me to find out more about Etnies and his role at the brand as well. So check out what John has to say, some photos of their new line, and then leave some love in the comments.

On the Horizon: Sputnic

Sputnic BMX

About a year ago I did an On the Horizon with Sputnic. Since then, a lot has changed. The team has been mixed up, the brand is now managed by Boyd Cornell, and there are a bunch of new products. I’ve been really psyched on the way Boyd has been handling things, and figured I’d see if he could fill us in on what’s going on with Sputnic these days. Check out what he had to say…

On the Horizon: Colony

Colony

I don’t know why, but whenever I hear somebody talking about Australia, I usually end up thinking Colony right away. Maybe it’s just because it’s a solid brand from there, or because I really don’t know a whole lot about the place. Regardless, I do know that I’ve been curious about the workings behind the business for a while. I got a chance to shoot Clint Millar some questions about Colony to find out a little bit about what makes the brand tick these days. Give a look at what he has to say, some photos and videos, then leave some love in the comments!

OTH: Shadow Conspiracy / Sparky’s

Over the course of the last few years, The Shadow Conspiracy and Sparky’s Distribution have been becoming more and more popular in BMX. Not only do they have plenty of products and a killer team under the Shadow name, they have brands like Subrosa and Mutiny under the Sparky’s name. They also have a bunch of real good people behind the scenes keeping things going from day to day like Ronnie.
Over the last few years, I’ve had the chance to get to know Ron Bonner who is a huge driving force in these brands and I finally got the chance to talk to him a little bit about the workings behind these two brands. So check out what he had to say in this On the Horizon…

On the Horizon: Seattle Bike Supply

There’s one thing that has always caught my attention, and that’s how large businesses can incorporate BMX into their stores and warehouses. When I used to work for a bike shop, I’d always be looking through the Seattle Bike Supply catalog wondering what kind of an operation they had going. Over the course of the last year, I’ve been introduced to a lot of people who I had no idea really existed – One of them being Gork from SBS. After a lot of emails back and forth about Redline and what not, I figured it would be cool to get a more in-depth look at SBS. So here it is…

On the Horizon: Greenhouse

There are a lot of reasons that I’m stoked on Greenhouse. The look of the Verde completes has always been really appealing to me, the team kills it, and the people involved with running the brand are really good people. I’ve been wanting to get this dialed in for a while now, and we finally locked it up. I got ahold of Cory Muth to go over everything Greenhouse, Verde, Duo and Cinema with me. Check out what he had to say, and leave some love in the comments….

On the Horizon: Kink

There have been a lot of really notable things going on with Kink the last few years. Whether is has been their ever popular team, revamped product line, or the real quality video coming out of them from Darryl Tocco. Things have been looking real good for the brand lately and it seemed to be time to catch up with them to see what’s going on these days. I hit up TM Jay Roe to fill in the blanks…

On the Horizon: Stolen Bikes

I had the chance to talk with David Wooten from Stolen/Greasy Comb Distribution a little bit during Interbike this past year. I heard quite a bit about where Stolen planned on going and figured it would be cool to fill you guys in a little bit with what they are doing these days. 2010 is off and running so expect to see quite a bit of Stolen this year…
