A few weeks ago, it was announced that Dave was leaving Madera to ride solely for Animal after years of getting flow from Animal. I figured with that, riding for Skavenger and just in general being a real interesting dude, it was time to see what he has been up to lately. Let’s see what’s new with Dave these days. Don’t forget to leave some love in the comments!
Name: Dave McDermott
Location: Orlando, Fl
Sponsors: Skavenger, Animal, 90 East
Years Riding: 12… give or take
How are things going with Skavenger these days? What do Vinnie and Ed have in the works with you these days? Any trips, videos or anything like that in the works you can tell us about?
Skavenger is legit. The frames and parts are the best out there. I’m real psyched to be a part of it. I just been chillin’ filming things as they come along. Some type of visual mix is in the works. I’ve seen some of the footage and it’s hot. As for me, I guess we will wait and see.
You recently decided to leave Madera to ride completely for Animal. Care to share why you made the decision? Are you still on Animal’s flow team or did they bump you up as part of this decision?
It’s kind of like breaking up with a fat girlfriend that didn’t like giving head. They helped me out for a long time and I’m thankful for that, but it feels good to be off. Animal has been real kind towards me as far as flowing me parts and clothes for a while now. I’m happy and just chillin where I’m at. I want to ride what I want and give support to real companies owned by real riders.
Any other sponsor news you have been psyched on?
I’m off Madera. Lino has been helping me out with some threads. 90East is another awesome rider owned company with a great vibe. The clothes look amazing and a new vid is in the works over there. That’s one to look out for too.

Outside of the Skavenger project, have you been filming for anything? I feel like you are due for a web edit at least.
I’ve been trying to film a few things for the 90East vid. You’re always due for a web edit. I’m more focused on putting together clips for videos.
I’d imagine the weather has been getting pretty hot down in Florida. What are your plans for the summer? Looking to get back up to Milwaukee, overseas or anywhere in particular?
I’m planning to dodge the heat and head north for a bit. New Jersey is my home away from home so I got to make a trip up every summer. I’ll be in Philly and Boston too hopefully. That’s about it.
You are living in a BMX house these days, right? How’s that going? Who’s all in the house these days? What’s the craziest stuff that’s happened since you have been there?
That mess is definitely a place. You might be able to help me with who lives there. Some riders, some characters, and a few rock stars. It’s a trash tornado of Floridians and packs of stray dogs. It’s been real staying at 71 North. I have some of the best friends over here. It’s all crazy. From gay bums fighting over a steak they got out of the dumpster to finding a little girls backpack in the driveway with a loaded revolver in it. I think Just walking into the backyard and looking around at what’s going on is probably the wildest shit I can think of.
How’s the street in Florida treating you these days? Any spots you have been real psyched on lately?
I’ve seen Florida’s full potential and I know what she’s got to offer. I’ve been to a lot of great places riding street and Florida is a contender in my eyes. It’s not the easiest terrain to work with, but as long as your down for the mission you will find shit. I’ve been looking in places other than the cities for spots. Florida has a ton of small towns that always have something interesting to offer. Sarasota, on the west coast, is the best place for street I have ever ridden. It’s like a lil chunk of Spain down there.
How about the waves? You get a fair share of surfing time in, right? Are you any good or is it just for fun?
Yeah, I have been surfing a lot. I ride out with the TMP crew and have a good time trying to bash the lip. Trying to get pitted all day. Just another hobby that keeps me from excelling at life. I love it.
It sounds like you have been fighting your love/hate relationship with art these days. Have you been working on any projects in particular? What’s the biggest challenge you seem to face with your work?
I had been working on some things, but I’m never fully satisfied. The idea’s pushing what I do are never conveyed in what I come up with so they never see the light of day.
Are you working or going to school at all these days or are you just killing it doing the pro life?
Living the flow life. I just Flow all day.
Outside of riding, surfing and doing your art, have you been getting into anything? I know you are a bit of a ladies man across the board from the first time bar girls to experienced cougars.
My girlfriend just saw this question and tried to rip my dick off. Looks like I won’t be getting into anything now.
What’s the last song you heard, movie you watched and website you visited?
The Crystals “Then he kissed me”, Heavyweights, Skavenger.com
Anything I missed you want to say?
Nope, that’s about it. Thanks for this and everyone who has ever helped me out. It means a lot. – Peace
