Dead Bang!

I would imagine a lot of you have seen this video by now and if you haven’t well you’re probably a sucky person… So, first step is to watch this movie and take notes on how much Metal Bikes rules your dumbass. This movie is jam fucking packed with drops, gaps, gnar death grinds and for fucking once in a video… A solid music line up.
You slam in the video and you get a simple menu which is the main movie, some bonus goodies and a section entitled “Damn Fence”… thats all you really need. You don’t need director or rider commentary or any other garbage that some videos are throwin in now a days. You just want to see kick ass stunts, nothing “artsy” about this video what so ever. It comes with a little booklet of pictures and some words about the team and all that, take a look at that too, thats about as “artsy” as it gets. Metal Bikes is straight and to the point.
The video starts off with Albie Bennett going over the bars straight to fists and probably face. This dude has crazy metal hair most of the time in this video and still some how shreds with some gnarly trickery, hair a blastin everywhere. He resembles that of Cousin It from The Adams Family, he’s bringin back the goofy foot style for those of you that are into that. High speed manual to big 180s, wallride 180s/540s and gaps/drops galore. Good choice of music for this section and he does a crazy rail hop where he lipslides the rail or something at the end… I don’t know what it was really but it ruled.
Alex Platt follows it up with a few clips that were already in something else that I can’t quite remember, maybe The Come Up dvd? That dude is crazy regardless, wish he had a larger section though…
I’m not really to into Derek Gabbert, but his part is creative none the less. He definitely ghost rides his bike to caveman drops off a ledge.
Next, a 3 way split section where you then get a little taste of what used to be, Brandon Turner, ex shredder turned surfer and roadbiker. These clips are definitely reallllly old, but he’s a San Diegun. I don’t know what that has to do with anything but whatever, miss watching that dude shred Pala Pool and other spots… Follow that up with some Seth Holton and Jim Bauer. I’ve always been a fan of Jim Bauer’s riding, he’s an ape. Goes for the gold when he shreds and usually attains it with some gnarly gap or peg shred on a rail or ledge. It just goes to show you that art directors of kickass companies shred too.
After that its a friends section with some cameo action from Jimmy Levan, trails and skatepark from a bunch of random dudes. Very entertaining, I won’t speak much of this all over the place section, you just need to watch it.
Alex Liiv follows it up with a damn good section, I would say that this is one of the best parts in the video. I fucking loves this section and the song chosen kicks some ass too. He spins wild 3s down gnarly staircases, plenty of peg use to satisfy anyone and goofin off slammed in between clips. It also gives you that staircase 3 that he took straight to the face, it floated around the internet for a while for those of you who remember that… I’ll just leave you with a sneak peak of the goat, probably the best part of the video right there.
I don’t know if you’ve heard of Bugga Man, but he can shoot a ball through a hoop any damn way he wants and strangely bares a striking resemblance to Jimmy Levan…. Weird…
Jimmy Levan has a prime section, peg shred on everything with a little slop but it don’t matter, the dudes a living legend. I’ve always been a Jimmy Levan fan, since the creation of Metal Bikes, I remember my first meet with Jimmy at a Vans Triple Crown back in the day when those still happened… Miss those days… I don’t need to say much about this section other than Levan rules, and he wallrides over a chain link fence with barb wire on it. The amount of tries to pull that wallride over the fence can be viewed in the “Damn Fence” bonus feature. Jimmy’s banger is that gnarly gap that ran in Ride Bmx years ago as a pullout poster, finally seeing this in a video was awesome, but I think it could’ve been filmed better perhaps… Maybe I’m just an asshole.
Chris Wilson has a section in this, the riding is good, but it doesn’t really go with the feel for the video. I think mainly because the section is edited to rap, it just isn’t METAL, Chris Wilson can do some impressive things on a bike but I just wasn’t feeling this section as compared to the rest of the video. It just didn’t seem to fit…
What can I possibly say to sum up Sean Burns and his crazy riding or his crazy personality? This is the best part of the video, you either patiently wait for this section or you skip directly to it because it blows you away. I can’t believe what this guy does, so effortless and when he takes it, he takes it pretty bad, but quickly gets back up for round two or shit, whatever the hell round it is. I never knew how good Sean Burns really was or how kick ass of a dude he is until he came out to California with Ferbert. He usually gets everything first try and does it over and over until the camera dude gets the shot or until he’s satisfied with it. All of this can be read and seen in the Sean Burns interview which was in the previous Ride mag… He talks of his travels and experiences in San Diego and I think reading that for the second time today is what pushed me to finally review this video. So you’re going to want to go ahead and just watch this section a few times and read his Ride interview if you haven’t already done so, you can really get a feel for much ass this dude kicks.
In conclusion, this video has good music, crazy shredding, awesome dudes and some shakey camera work, I think it was all made in Imovie too… But that takes nothing away from it at all. The camera angles are straight forward and to the point, its fast paced and entertaining as fuck, just like how a bmx video should be.
The video ends with a big ol’ rack a tits, you can’t argue with that…
